With more and more graduates going on to set up their own small business or develop a new idea in an existing organisation this module introduces you the basic skills needed. Including practical exercises such as creating a business plan for investors, managing cash flow and developing a marketing plan, you will learn the terminology using in business and put it to use. Assessment is through group presentation, individual and group reports, and examination.
As a potential manager in the future, it is essential that all business students have the knowledge of the key organizational financial objectives and responsibilities and of the financial pressure under which they operate. Therefore, this module provides students in business studies with the knowledge of key concepts in accounting and finance as well as how to communicate organizational financial information with different groups of business stakeholders through the preparation of financial statements for different types of business. The module also includes the basic issues in managing organizational costs and budgets.
How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through two course works and a final exam.
The aim of this module is to introduce you to the fundamental aspects of Globalization. Globalization is a societal phenomena wherein social barriers and geographical restrictions no longer exist and the only thing that separates people from each other is time.
For this module, you will have the opportunity to explore: how the concept of Globalisation has evolved; the contexts to which it refers and is used, as well as the economic, political, technological and social driving forces. Students will be opportune to explore the beliefs and historical aspects of local and regional issues that become global in nature, specifically - economic survival, global politics and environmental concerns.
The lessons are filled with interesting quizzes and debates on historical and current international issues. In preparation for this module: I will suggest you start watching documentaries (BBC, CNN and Aljazeera) of how your own economy and different countries are integrating into the international economy through trade, investment, capital flow and migration.
Assessments for this module include 2 individual presentations, In-class tests and end of term exam.
Building on the topics covered in Business Studies, this module looks at the variety of structures used in international businesses and the different ways that they can be managed. This includes studying management theory, operations management, organisational behaviour and motivation. By completing this module you will have an excellent knowledge of the basic concepts of management and the research skills needed during your first year at university. Assessment is through an essay developed over the first 10 weeks of the module and both open and closed-book examination.
This module aims to create a comprehensive understanding of the concept of Marketing and its practical reflection on business environment. Major aspects of Marketing will be investigated such as the nature of the marketing environment, the role of behavioural sciences in marketing, purchasing process, the concept of segmentation and its process, and strategic marketing planning and tactics. Content will also reflect contemporary business concerns regarding ethics, social responsibility and sustainability, and globalisation.
How will I be assessed? (Group work, presentations, exams)
Assessment consists of 2 multiple choice tests, and a final 2 hours exam.
Assessment by 2 exams
Exam 1 - Non calculator section and Calculator section. Worth 30% of total marks. Takes place mid semester.
Exam 2 - Calculator throughout. Worth 70% of total marks.
Student need to pass both exams to proceed.
